The Second Coming of Christ

What will happen at the Second Coming? First, there will be the General Resurrection. Jesus said, “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation” (John 5:28-29). For the righteous, the resurrection will be a resurrection to “eternal life” (Matthew 25:46). This is a message of hope and comfort (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). However, for the wicked, the resurrection will be a resurrection to “everlasting punishment” (Matthew 25:46). For the wicked, this is a message of warning (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10).
Second, there will be the Universal Judgment. Paul wrote, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). Remember that Judgment Day is an “appointed” day (Acts 17:31) in which “each of us shall give account of himself to God” (Romans 14:12).
Third, there will be the End of the World. Peter wrote, “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up” (2 Peter 3:10).
Christ will come again at a time known only to the Father (Matthews 24:36). Therefore, let us carefully use the present day to prepare for the day of the Lord (2 Peter 3:11).
